About
Gulf Coast Angler, LLC
My name is Phil Tereyla and I am the owner and head guide of Gulf Coast Angler. Being blessed to have a mom and step dad living in Colorado and a dad and step mom living near the Gulf coast, I began to hone my fishing skills in both salt and fresh water. While in college I started my career as a full time guide. After finishing with a Bachelor’s Degree in History, I continued to guide full time while also serving as a contributor to American Angler Magazine, becoming a published author with Wilderness Adventures Press and becoming a Signature Fly Designer with Montana Fly Company. Away from the water, I enjoy working on my boat, working as a Certified Yamaha Outboard Marine Technician, and spending time with my wife Melissa, and dog, Boba.
To me being a fishing guide is about teaching. While I love catching fish myself, there is no better feeling than helping and teaching others. I want people to leave their time on the water with me feeling like they can go on to have success on their own. Would I love to have you back to fish with me? OF COURSE, but teaching and being a part of the experience of others maybe catching their first fish, their biggest fish, or even just helping others become better anglers is what keeps me excited about being on the water.
A number of years ago, my mom told me a story about a time when I was 6 years old and my dad had dropped me off from my first deep sea fishing trip on a party boat out of Destin, Florida. She said I came home and asked her where I could buy fiberglass so that I could build a boat to take people fishing. Well here I am over 30 years later living my childhood dream.
